Our First Minnesota Concert: Kygo at Grand Casino Hinckley

Weekend Activities - Kygo Concert at Grand Casino Hinckley

Don't get us wrong, we absolutely love Minneapolis, but sometimes you just need to shake up the routine and get out of the city for a weekend. When we saw that Kygo was playing at Grand Casino Hinckley, we figured, why not make it a whole weekend experience? Spoiler alert: it ended up being one of our favorite mini-getaways, and we're here to tell you why Grand Casino Hinckley should definitely be on your radar for your next concert date night.

Why Grand Casino Hinckley Hit Different

The Concert Experience That Surprised Us

Let's be real – when you think "casino concert," you might not expect the production value to be all that great. But Kygo's show at Grand Casino Hinckley completely blew our expectations out of the water. The venue might be on the smaller side compared to some Minneapolis concert halls, but honestly? That made it even better.

The smaller setting allowed us to see everything without fighting crowds. Plus, Kygo played way longer than we expected – we got to hear all our favorites and then some. The crowd was super chill too, which made for this perfect laid-back vibe that matched the whole weekend getaway energy.

Perfect Late May Weather

We went in late May, and the weather was absolutely perfect for a weekend escape. Not too hot, not too cold – just that sweet spot where you can walk around comfortably without layers. Perfect for the short walk between the casino and our hotel room!

The Logistics: Getting There and Staying There

The Drive from Minneapolis

The drive from Minneapolis took us about an hour and a half on a Friday, which is totally doable for a weekend trip. We actually enjoyed the drive – it's nice to see some different scenery and get out of the city hustle for a bit.

Staying at Grand Casino Hinckley

One of the best parts? The hotel is attached to the casino, and the concert venue is maybe a 5-minute walk max. No Uber surge pricing, no parking headaches, no "should we drive or walk" debates. Just pure convenience.

The Casino Experience: More Than Just Slots

Gaming Options Galore

If you're into slot machines, you're going to be in heaven here. They've got tons of options when it comes to slot machines that will keep you busy. We're not huge gamblers, but we played some electronic blackjack for a bit – mostly just to get a free drink and soak up the pre-concert atmosphere.

They've also got a handful of table games, including blackjack and poker. One small bummer for roulette fans: they don't have any roulette options (neither table games nor electronic), so keep that in mind if that's your game.

Food Scene at the Casino

The Grill House: Our Lunch Win

We decided to grab lunch at the Grill House, and honestly, it was way better than we expected for casino food. Max went with the prime rib sandwich (solid choice), and we split the pickle cheese curds as an appetizer – and let us tell you, those cheese curds were actually incredible.

The prices were pretty reasonable for a casino restaurant too, which was a nice surprise.

Food Court Options

They've got a large food court with tons of options that we didn't get to explore this time, but it looked like there was something for everyone. Definitely planning to check that out on our next visit!

Post-Concert Vibes: Rival House

After the show, we stopped by Rival House, which was absolutely packed with concert-goers looking to keep the party going. If you're looking for that concert after-party energy, this is your spot. We were pretty tired after dancing to Kygo, so we just grabbed some food to go, but the vibe looked like a blast if you've got the energy for it.

Why Grand Casino Hinckley Works for Minneapolis Couples

You know how sometimes you want that "vacation feeling" without actually taking time off work or driving for hours? That's exactly what Grand Casino Hinckley gave us. It's far enough from Minneapolis that it feels like an adventure, but close enough that we were back home Sunday night feeling totally refreshed.

Whether you're into:

  • Live music and concerts (check their event calendar regularly)
  • Casual gambling without the Vegas intensity
  • Good food at reasonable prices
  • A chill weekend escape from Minneapolis life

This place delivers on all fronts.

Our Verdict: Definitely Going Back

We're already keeping an eye on their concert calendar for our next visit. If you're looking for fun weekend ideas in Minnesota that don't require a major road trip, Grand Casino Hinckley is definitely worth checking out.

The combination of live entertainment, decent food, gaming options, and that "mini-vacation" feeling makes it perfect for couples looking to mix things up without breaking the bank or using up all their vacation days.
